CHENNAI: Around 1,500 students who have passed out of various city colleges over the past three years participated on Day 1 of a two-day job fair held at Queen Mary’s College on Saturday.
Students came in looking for good jobs, good employers and a proper work environment. Classmates Dhanalakshmi and M.Gomathi, who have completed their BSc Nutrition and Dietetics, said they came looking for “good voice-related jobs.”
“We have applied to a couple of places and we thought we could come here,” said Ms. Dhanalakshmi. Though they said they had to improve on their typing skills, they did not lose heart and said they would try to better themselves. Organised by Techruit, a Chennai-based placement services company, the fair has representatives from companies including Perot Systems, Azimuth, Reliance BPO, Sutherland BPO, Country Club and Serco. There is no entry fee to participate in the fair, which would be
on from 9.30 a.m.
Members of the Serco team said that of the 200 students whom they interviewed only 30 were not up to the mark. They looked for
communication skills, the energy, confidence and interest in doing the job. P.R. Madhan, Head-Client Relations of Techruit, said there has been no slowdown in Business Process Outsourcing company recruitments.
